I searched for a thread pertaining to Wood Bleach or Oxalic Acid, couldn't find one specific to it. I might like to try it but I have a few questions/concerns. I am hoping you guys will weigh in. Who's using it? How do I mix it? (how much per gallon of water) How does it really work? Can it be used indoors? (Is it caustic) **If it is mixed too strong will it hurt paint or chrome?

I would say the same as evaporust and a lot cheaper. Can it be used indoors? (Is it caustic)........ I am using it indoors with no smell. I put my bare hands in it and they haven't fallen off yet...lol They do get dried out the same as using any other cleaning agent. **If it is mixed too strong will it hurt paint or chrome?..... I only mixed it a little stronger and my parts are really rusty I am using it on. It cleaned the rust and sticker goo off my liquidator guard and left the raspberry paint fine.

It still has some of the heavy rust on it still.

I only soaked it a few minutes then scrubed it with a fine brass brush. Let it soak another hour or less then scrub it again. Easy job could use more soaking though. Check out how good it did on the spokes...lol I thought they were shot.

The wood bleach looks like its great on all kinds of parts,though. Does someone have a list of ratios for diluting it to use on different kinds of parts?

Once you have a feel for it your good. I would say maybe a tea spoon per gallon for heavy rust. I have not had evapo rust or wood bleach remove or harm paint so far. I figure I'll will soak wheels while the hubs are apart.

(500+ Posts)** Posts: 732 (03/30/11 19:39:53) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I bought a big Rubbermaid tote with a lid, mixed 10 gallons of water with 10 teaspoons of wood bleach and threw an old rusty wheel in the solution last night. When I was mixing it did not seem like 1 tsp. was enough but I went with it. This morning before I left for work I checked on it, as soon as I opened the lid I could tell something was happening, it smelled exactly like it smells when you use a DA sander on rusty sheet metal. This stuff definitely works pretty good, I dont think it works as well as Evaporust but could you imagine having 10 gallons of Evaporust at one time ($200+). I got the wood bleach at Ace hardware, I think the little tub of the stuff was like $6, probably enough to make 250 gallons, definitely worth it.

The 1 teaspoon per gallon is a conservative number to get you started. You ight try to add a couple more now that you have a feel for it. Another important thing is Oxilic Acide settles so it is best to agitate it every once in a while.

That is what most Heroin addicts say right before they overdose! lol No start small and work your way up. If it isn't working fast enough add a little but don;t go too heavy if you don;t need it. If you have a really rusty part then 2 might be fine. I think 1 per gallon does fine for me on everyday type rust. I feel a video coming on!
