Not even a cantilever frame so definitely not a Stingray. I say it's a late run on the Musclebike platform, (knock off) more mid 70's

I have seen multiple ad's from the early days that label non-Schwinn bikes as Stingrays. Seems everyone was using the term early on. Schwinn had major ad campaigns in nearly every magazine advertising their Stingray so the name was a household name in a kid's world. So I assume other companies jumped on the term too. Similar to how Schwinn borrowed it from the Corvette. I guess that is why Schwinn added the slash in between the two words so they would not get sewed.

I thought the price was high also, but I don;t think there was much of any regulation on that. Maybe Bert and Mac was the only store in their town so they charged more? (1000 +) Posts: 1529 (01/24/11 08:51:05) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Schwinn only wanted its high rise bike associated with the name "Sting-Ray" they didn't want it to become a generic term for the style. Schwinn didn't want unaware parents going into a bike shop - asking for a Stingray - and being presented with this line: " Here is the latest StingRay model -made by Rollfast". Schwinn probably saw lost revenue if StingRay became a general term used by everyone - like "dragster". Dragster was already a common term in the racing world. Even though it appears Huffy was the only company with the legal right to actually name their bike "Dragster" , it didn't stop other companies from using the term generically as a style indicator. I think the difference was that Schwinn got "huffy" over others using the term stingray, while Huffy couldn't be bothered worrying about it. a lot of companies used the term "dragster" instead of "high riser" to describe the type of model they were selling.
