Hey guys just picked up a 1970 grants slingshot 5 speed that was original red color. How ever when I bought it I wanted to build it like the bike I had as a kid. (a 1969 huffy slingshot 5speed. Copper ) so just wanted your opinions on should I do this bike back to it's original red or switch to the 69 3 bar huffy frame and do the the copper 69 bike? What do you guys think. I really don't know much about the grants badged slingshots.

In my opinion the Red Grants would be far rarer of a bike. The oddball ones also are more desirable to those who do not have them. I love my Rally Bronze Slingshot but I have 2 now so a Red Slingshot would be very cool. I have only seen a couple around! On the other hand you have to build what your wanting so either way would work. smiley: smile

Thanks for the input Ron. Maybe I should just do this back to the original red grants slingshot and just wait till another one comes along. Ps. Let me know if ever want to sell one of those bronze slingshots. If anyone has some pics of a red one please post them. mine has been repainted and altered it would be a great help to see what it should look like. Also as reference

Yeah that's it. Ron I love those slingshots. Mine was like the top pic but had a black seat with a stripe on it

Like this right? Pretty much the way it came. Haven't installed the brake cables yet. It took me 3 years to get it this far!! Not sure it should say Deluxe Slingshot on the guard. Maybe I should check the Huffy books that I sell. :-) I believe the single stick shifter is also correct on this model.

I think they did say Deluxe Slingshot on these. I put my Black seat on my 3 speed, and added the Orange glitter persons seat to my 5 speed. I also upgrade to the twinn stick shifter on my 5 speed. I have seen a couple with them though so I am thinking they may have offered both or the dealer may have installed them after the fact. Hard to say. smiley: smile

I'm gonna see if my mom has any pics with my bike in them. If so I'll scan them & put them on here. I'm shure it had the park brake on the shifter but I don't remember what the chain guard said. By the way both you guys bike are awesome. !!

Ok here's the vin 0H002414 so from this the bike is a 1970 from what I've learned from Ron. Still has the grants headbadge on it & they taped off the grants sticker on the seat post tube so it's still there. Bike was red no doubt. Front fork looks in good condition although the spring needs rechromed. And the chrome trim on top looks good.

I'll look again tomorrow in the daylight. If there is what does in mean? The seller showed me a picture he has of it still red and has the spring on the rear of the seat across to the seat post. But it and the seat are long gone. Ron do you have the slingshot decals for this one ?

I have the guard decal on ebay if you would like to see it. Sometimes the other badged bikes have a separate number elsewhere. I have seen a couple. It is not very common though. I believe it is a Grants, just curous if they used another number also. smiley: smile

Don't see any numbers on the crank case but it's spray bombed pretty heavy with gray metalflake. When I get home and sandblast it we,ll see

I'll get some good close up pics of the grants stickers when I get home. I've decided to do the bike back to original or at least close as I can. I'll just wait for another huffy slingshot to pop up and do the bronze bike. There's some untouched spots of red , like under the trim on the fork I'll try and get good pics of to match up the right color for it. It looks like it has a silver base under the red.
