Fat Lip's Evel Knievel Chopper Build |
Lead | |
|
OK guys, here's my entry into the Build-Off. I've been thinking about building this bike for a couple of weeks now so with the build-off starting up soon it seems like a good time to get going on it. Basically it's gonna be sort of a 'What If?' bike. What if in the late seventies Evel Knievel signed with Murray instead of AMF to build his signature line of bikes? Think about it....there was the Fire Cat and the King Kat. Could there have been an Evel Kat???? I got the idea after finding an old comic book with an ad on the back showing the Evel Knievel line of toys by Ideal. One of those toys was an Evel Knievel chopper. So one day I was looking at my Murray catalog and my Evel Knievel AMF catalogs side by side and then the idea hit me. I'm gonna take a Sears Free Spirit chopper (I wanted a chopper with a plastic gas tank) and I'm gonna build it 'Evel Knievel style'. I'm gonna take the look of the AMF Evel MX bike and add it to the Sears chopper.

UPDATE!!!! | ||
|
I got a chance to do some work on my build off bike this weekend. I stripped the paint off of the frame, fender and tank. I plan on painting everything next weekend. I'll post some pics then. I also have all of my graphics done for the bike. Once the paint and graphics are done I'll just have to clean up all of the chrome but that should go quick with some help from Evapo-Rust. I'll have the bike done in time for the Trexlertown bike swap so I may take it there for it's unveiling.

I finally painted the frame and fender today. I still have to paint the tank and chainguard but I should have them done by next weekend. I also plan on finishing cleaning up the chrome parts during the week. Then it's just a matter of applying the graphics...So far so good

I don't know if I'll finish on time but... | ||
|
...I'm real close to getting it done. Here are some update pics. I still have to finish the tank and assemble the bike. I picked up an original EK MX seat at Trexlertown that I may use on this bike. I'm not sure yet, may go with a banana seat instead... |

Looks great man. If they had made those back then I bet they would be more popular than any of the others.
