This is my 1977 Hiawatha/Gambles Murray Firecat that I am restoring.
It has the following original parts still on it:
handgrips, handlebars, fork, front and rear wheels, front and rear factory inner tubes, front reflector, kickstand, crank, chain, pedals, front original factory Carlisle tire (dry rotted)
The following parts were replaced:
seat, sissy bar, rear tire (new slick 20 x 2.125), two spokes, inner tube protection strips
The following parts are going to be replaced:
front tire (with NOS Carlisle factory original), crank (with NOS one from EBAY), missing a chain guard but have ordered one from dd (thanks).
I have a sneaking suspicion that this cycle was stored indoors for years due to the lack of rust on the wheels and frame. I still have the rusted original seat, the original Carlisle dry-rotted 20 x 2.125 rear tire, and the rear plastic fender (not in the best shape). The sissy bar(s) that came with this cycle were rusted pipe things. The wheels were warped with loose spokes that I tightened and straightened. I have no idea how much this is worth, but I know that they are RARE because I cannot seem to find more for sale on the internet. I bought this one from a man in North Dakota. I had two of these as a kid and I ride this one with my children around the neighborhood.
