These are some of the pedal cars i used to own. I restored the Fire Truck and The Atomic Missile Jet. The Camaro is a Custom Car only a few were made. The Baby Buggatti is a repop of and original. Here They Are:
1934 Steelcraft Buick pedal car. Fully Sprung front and rear. Working head and tail lights. Chrome Luggage rack Leather seat and steering wheel cover.
This one is a 1936 Duesenberg Racer. The wheels are not correct. They should be another type of spoked rim or like the ones on the 1934 buick but 12 inch not 10. This model had the chrome side pipes which i thought were really cool.
This one is a 1956 BMC Firetruck that i restored. I tried to push this restoration as far as i could. Custom wheels were made for this by cutting down a 10 inch wheel. Look at the wheels on the 1934 buick. We cut the center out. Chromed the steering wheel, windshield, lights, ladder racks, custom wheels.
Here is a 1969 Camaro Pace Car Custom Made. There were only a hand full of these made back in the late 1990's It has real houndstooth seat. The wheels covers were custom made. They used a BMC steering wheel to make the camaro one.
This is a 1956 BMC Racer with a custom paint job. Another set of custom front wheels with 10 inch rear wheels painted like Goodyear Eagles. Check out the on board fire protection. LOL
Last one is a 1950's Atomic Missile Jet. Another Set of Custom Wheels. Repainted. Chrome exhuast ports, Steering wheel,Controls Ready to fly.!!

I am glad everyone likes them. We used to set them up at car shows. The kids loved them. We would let the kids sit in them so their parents could take their pictures. The old guys had stories of throwing out pedal cars to the junk pile. LOL I still look for them at garage sales or auctions. They are out there just like the bike. Just gotta find them.!!

Ron if you are going to restore any pedal cars keep in mind they are just like bicycles with the value scale. Original paint is ALWAYS worth more unless in is just shot with no color. There are certain cars that are worth more then others. There are basic cars you can make into an upgraded model. Like making a 1969 6cyl camaro into a Z-28 by adding parts. Finding the rare cars 1920's 1930's and some 1940's is where the money is at. There are repops to that killed the price of a original. They have a pedal car show in Tennesse every year the end of April begining of May. Just like a bike show but pedal cars, toys, and some bikes to. Those are all such neat cars! Here's my $20 find, was surface rusted bad, quickie paint and flame job, maybe I'll throw in a tan vinyl seat for contrast. Sorry for poor pic, thought I had a better one.

Hey Dave T.,
An original with new paint and chrome would be worth more but not much because collectors wont pay good money for them when there is a repop. The market just fell out on any original car that has been repoped. It would cost more to restore it then it would be worth even if you got it free. But they are still cool to look at. The 34 Buick has a metal frame that has spring steel attached to it running the length and it bends down for the rear axle and front wheels to attach. This gives a spring ride like shocks. Look at the under side of the car. that was a option on the higher end cars. The cars in the 1920's and before had wood frames. Dave go to dspedalcarrestorations.com to see more cool stuff. Lots of before and after pictures of restorations. Anything with a plastic frame is 1960's or newer. |
