I have found it works best on raw steel or cadmium plated stuff. I like it.

Yeah I think if you have pretty good cad plated parts then not to leave them in over night just soak them for 30 minutes as it says and it works best. It also
works good on chrome, and saves a lot of super fine steal whool. lol

Auto Parts stores have it. Also if you can not find this stuff then CLR works as well. You have to use CLR full strength and soak it for a while but it does
work. It is great for cad plated nuts bolts and brackets. Once chrome is bad and pitted it will never shine until replated, but it gets all the rust out if you
soak it long enough. Cad plated stuff may turn black but a little steel wool or even SOS will shine it up like new or better.
I am going to try some of that expensive chrome paint stuff. It is like a $100 for three cans of paint that are supposed to be the best fake chrome out there. |

I bought some too Ron. After seeing your results, I can't wait to give this stuff a try. Looks promising.

"where do you get that stuff. looks great" Bought mine at Autozone. About 10.00 for the size Ron bought.

Thanks for the tip Ron. I will do some more research before I buy anything then. I have so much I could have rechromed but it is so much money. More than most
bikes are worth. My plan was to try it out on a low end bike first to see what I can do. I would think the 3 or 4 cans it comes with would cover several bikes.
If I can make it look good then I may use it on lower end bikes for low cost restoration. It has to turn out better than rusty parts look.

I think the airbrush version might work better. The facts are you have to lay down a perfect deep gloss black paint job first
and then apply a super thin coat of the Alsa Chrome. If you apply too much it looks like Aerosol can silver and if you don't apply enough it looks like
black paint with silver specks. I bought a set up and 1 can set up did a sissy bar. With rattle cans you don;t have the control you really need to make it work
as good because they are usually either on or off, and can not be adjusted like a air brush or paint gun.

I'll look in to the spray gun stuff too then. Probably cheaper anyway, huh?

AutoZone is the place to get it, not sure why it isn't available in more places. It is about $9 for 32 oz, but I found it on ebay too. I got a gallon
recently, on sale for around $27-28 shipped. This is the best deal I've found so far.

Yeah I see no reason to leave them in longer as the 30 minute time they recommend does its best stuff. More is not always
better.

I wish I had seen this thread before I put my rail back together with not so clean chrome... Now I'm gonna have to tear it apart again and do it right!

Troy, just to let you know, if the chrome is pitted, you will definitely still see the pitting. It does, however, remove most every bit of rust. For heavily
rusted items, I recommend leaving in the evaporust overnight. I also recommend using a brass or very fine bristle brush during the time you are rinsing the
parts. It hasn't hurt the paint or decals on anything that I have used it on so far. Kenny.

I have been having trouble getting bolts and stuff out of the bottom, so I took a 1 gallon coffee can and poured my Evapo Rust
in it, then took a quart can and stabbed holes all in it. I put the smaller quart can down into the evapo rust inside the larger coffee can and then stick my
parts in the quart can. this way I can pull the quart can out with the parts in it, and the evapo rust does not get wasted this way, and I can get the parts
out without getting my hands dirty. lol

RailRider wrote: Lol! But on a serious note, Im not really found of the evapo rust. I used
it on stuff that had minor rust, left it overnight and it still had some surface rust on it, most pieces barley anything happened to them. Maybe I used it
wrong or something but the directions as we know aint rocket science. What I normally use to clean minor rust is some heavy duty chrome polish and a copper
dishwasher scrub, the one without the sponge. This is much quicker than my try with evapo. Let me know if I missed something. Thanks.
