I lucked out this time and bought 2 at one time and a part bike with a bent last week. So this really makes up for the hard ripping I took last week on the Bent Frame Mark II I bought online! Supposedly there are polaroid photos of an original bike which was "restored" back in the 80s. Not enough proof for me... Congrats Ron, the 3 speed is probably the 2nd hardest to find and find clean. According to the ad they made it. The top of the ad says 20 + 16 Screamer(s) and if you zoom in on the chainguard it also states 20 + 16 Screamer. I have not been looking for that one, and Sears also sld that weird looking Huffy Screamer too, it was a coaster brake and a really short frame I think it was around 1971. Here is some of the only evidence we have on the coaster 1968 Screamer. (kind of blurry) P.S. Check out the other cool bikes in 24" I think they did a decent job in the Manta Ray type crowd! There is some debate over what year was the official last year on the Screamer also. I still believe it was 1973 but we have no official evidence. The closest we have is Steve bought that Screamer he sent me to paint, and it had a odd sprocket neevr seen on a Screamer before. We had some debate over that one at the time. We then started noticing that the 1973 Murray made 5 speed and 10 speed models came out with a new sprocket like Steve had on his bike. We actually found that Kenny has a 1973 Murray Eliminator with the same sprocket, and original 1973 ads showing the new sprocket. So far no 1972 has been found with the same sprocket so we are really leaning that the 1973 Screamer does exist and that Steve has the only known survivor of that thus far. I know this is all flimsy so we are awaiting future evidence to further note. As far as the Magenta Coaster Screamer in 68, I think they made them, But probably didn,t sell well..as far as the Screamers years I have a Christmas of 1972 catalog that still shows the screamers so i think they were avilable in 73..if anyone has any later sears catalogs please look to see if it shows screamers later in 73 or 74..

The bike came in with a 1969 seat and other parts but it has a flat drop out like the 1970 bikes, I think its an early 1970 model. I will get the numbers soon and post them for further discussion. I hope we can pin point more info one day. Heres a 1971 Ad showing the 3 speed with the butterfly handle bars. This is the only know documentation that they may have done this on this model. I like them better myself. (500+ Posts)** Posts: 675 (05/23/09 14:36:22) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Last year, I picked up a magenta colored seat that could very well be for a '68 Screamer coaster. These pictures show an original early black Screamer seat next to the magenta one. The shape and manfacturer are the same. I still have plans to build one of these based on the catalog picture, but finding a correct serial numbered frame will probably be impossible. My Screamer serial number starts with 0247728..., so based on the catalog number a Coaster frame would start with 0247727... to be correct. One would almost have to make a 'replica' if they want one in thier collection.

Here is a scan of the upper part of pages 734-735 of the Sears 1969 Spring/Summer catalog. Shows catalog part numbers and the descriptions of both bikes.

Thanks oneadamtwelve for the full amount of the ad, I only had the picture and not the info section, I think that confirms that they did in fact have the coaster brake model as shown or they wouldn't have had the ad showing it and describing it to a "T" I guess anyone can convert a 1968 screamer frame into one but with incorrect numbers. Lucky I have 3 5 speed 1968's now so look out! lol. P.S. how much for that magenta seat! Its not as nice as the keeper but has great chrome ect.. I am not sure what to do with it. I hate to part it out, and as hard as they seem to be to find I may respray it and put it together for sale. Not sure yet! The ones you pictured are the right color, but wrong ones. If you look at the bigger picture above you can just make out that they are the Sears sport type grips. Ron might be able to blow the picture up a little and show them better. Please Ron. Kenny.
