I picked this up late last night. It was 82 miles one way. The owner of this bike had it in his possession for 35 years. The bike belonged to his childhood friend who was killed on a motorcycle accident during his senior year in high school. The bike originally was posted on craigslist several months ago for a stupid price of something like $1500. Eventually he changed his mind and put it up for $300 plus a parts bike. I emailed him about the bike and finally met up and bought it. I didn't think the bike was worth $300 because it is so rough. I put some weight on the front end to make sure the forks weren't going to bend or break. They seem to be pretty solid. I did end up giving $250 for both bikes. The parts bike is a girls rollfast scoot 666. I haven't taken pictures of it but there aren't many useable parts on that bike either.
I would like to eventually get the forks, handlebars, and maybe the sissy bar re chromed. I might even try to use this frame. Not sure yet. Anyway here it is.

I think these are far beyond what oxalic acid or evaporust can do but I may give it a try. Won't hurt anything.
Anybody have a ballpark idea what it might cost to get these forks re chromed?

Pm sent. If you sent him a check through the postal service contact your local postal inspection service to file a complaint. If the money was sent through the mail then it becomes a felony mail fraud case.

Thanks for all the good info guys. The top plate is thicker like you noticed. Rob if you want to trace your plate I would love to have it.
