No it doesn't eat anything but rust. The tubs from wal mart are just thin plastic and it breaks down after a few months like plastic usually does. Those are only made to hold your old clothes. I have mixed it pretty strong and it has not damaged anything I have had.

I destroyed the mint original decals on my sons Mongoose, I also had the color start to come off other decals on various parts.

You mixed it way too strong. I used to use a 20 gallon container and I would only use maybe 2-3 tablespoons. I have seen others put it in too long and use too much. I have seen it dull chrome. I have NEVER had any issues but I watch it every 2-3 hours and see it progress. It can do some damage but you really have to be using way too much Oxalic Acid to do damage.
