(500+ Posts)** Posts: 835 (01/29/12 14:36:58) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	the dealer catalogs show the cheater slick bikes with black walls on them and are described as cheater slick rear tire. the first red band appears in the 67 catalog and they first list the tires as red band tires. my guess is that the early 66 bikes had the black wall cheaters and sometime after mind year they changed to the red band. these are just my thoughts from seeing the way they introduced the rest of the parts later on with the up grades. the rail model isnt pictured in the 66 dealer catolog that i have ,so they might have been released later and had the red line tires.

(25+ Posts) Posts: 296 (01/29/12 19:58:29) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	People refer to this picture as being listed for 1967, but everything says 1966, from the sprocket to the persons silver glow slim line seat which was only in production from persons in mid 1965 till the fall of 1966. Troxel made a seat very similar but it was gold in color and thicker ,more rounded and had that district Troxel look. The seat pictured is a Slim line silver glow Persons seat. The picture above is listed as a 1967 but it is actually huffys first introduction to the Rail from 1966. Im sure some did come with black walls off the assembly line as stock ran low but its clearly evident that when Huffy introduced them to the public in the above publication that the bikes were supposed to ship with red line tires. The rail was supposed to be set apart from the polo bikes so its odd they would feature cheap black wall tires when the rail was a big as you could get as far as features. The only early rail styles bikes I have seen without red lines are Firestone wheel bikes, and one wheel bike badges western flyer Both of with were 67 model bikes. I had to tear down a 66 stamped rail a few year ago that was in horrible shape, 5 speed with a T bar shifter, Copper tone and both Red line cheater slik and dual red line front tire. It could be a 1967 the bikes were nearly the same. I feel Huffy used different seats early on in the Rail production line. Even the few coppertone 3 speed Rails we have seen have all had different seats. Some have popped up with black and some have white glitter. You might also notice the odd goose neck stem, & the sprocket nobody ever sees on them. I am sure they used red lines early on also but right now we have no way of knowing if they started on the first Rails or 6 months into production.

I really doubt the bikes were much different in 1966 than 1967. Minor changes such as seat and sprockets. I am betting they had redlines early on.

(500+ Posts)** Posts: 835 (01/30/12 17:22:57) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	johns rail add from October 7 1966 does help, thanks john now we have some documentation that they were offered with red lines in the later part of the year. i was going off of the 66 dealer catalog pages that list cheater slick and dont mention the red bands yet. the rails not in it the 66 ive got, but the catalog was probably done in late 65 so the 66 info would be out before the bikes. thats why i thought they {red bands} might have been added around mid year 66 , till we find some documentation thats dated before june 66 i,ll stick with the mid year upgrade to the red bands. but, theres no way to know what month in 66 the bike was built anyway so i would go with the red band tires regardless.....unless you prefer the black wall....
