I noticed over the years that when an argument breaks out the phrase 'they are just childrens bikes" always ends up being used to try to calm things down!
Well, I collect these bikes, and hold them in a special place in my life. they are more to me than childrens bikes now. They are a piece of history, a part of the past that gives me pleasure or enjoyment. I really hate to say it but they are more to me than just childrens bikes!
When I first started buying bikes I of course went for the obvious Schwinn Stingrays. However I soon developed a taste for the rare and unusual. I have owned a lot of bikes some that I don't even have pictures of. Maybe others own more but I feel we all hold them in a special place. I have fought since I have been collecting non-schwinn bikes to help show that they are good bikes, and much more rare than a Krate, I have tried to put as much info out there to help people learn more about these bikes. There are so many myths out there about these bikes that I prefer to rely on period documentation to back our bicycle history. Not just hearsay and fairy tales!
So to sum up my point, they are not just childrens bikes if they were then we would just leave them outside in the yard, or let them get rained on, we wouldn't spend hours polishing them, putting them in a special order in our garages. We would not be on the computer talking bikes, and promoting this hobby if they were "just childrens bikes"
Oh no... they are much more!
