Looks like a 1971, should have a serial on the rear drop out that states with a 1H**** It is a Huffy Slingshot 5. Very desirable bike! Looks unmolested although it needs lovin. I would try to save the original paint if possible.
The front caliper is a Excel raceur and I think I have one from a bike I am parting out in the classified section. ![]()

Hey I was bidding on that tire, lol...you know I'm greedy! No just kidding Gary Wold has a bunch of these. they used to bring $75 and they just keep dropping in price. Now the rear SLICK tires are pricier, If I find them I usually buy them. Leo Had one on not long ago, and I should have bid but didn't need it then.

Great find Nate. Everyone and there mama is looking for that chainguard. Good luck. There is a link above for an nos front tire. Like Ron said, the rears are getting as hard to find as the chainguard. That looks like it will clean up nice though. Never find anything like that around here. Damn the luck. Kenny.

Yeah I do have the front brake. Hows $20 email me at raleighrons@aol.com I don't have any extra tires right now, and I am also looking for more Flaming Stack Guards, along with at least 3-4 other members, lol
I will be working on a bracket to attach a 24" Flaming stack guard onto a 20" soon so that will help. I seem to see those more than any others for sale. The welded bracket is about 3" forward compared to the 20" ![]() |

Very nice find. But......like the others have said, that rear tire is getting almost impossible to find. Especially an NOS one. Good luck!

thanks Ron for all the help wondering if this is the original sissy bar since it is different then yours thanks, Nate

If it is in fact a 1971 they stated using a short sissy bar, but tall aftermarket types were still available. I added a factory Persons 48" to my 1971 to match my 1970, I like them better. lol Don't see to many axle mount bars on 5 speeds. Did you get your serial number yet?

The serial number on the bike is 1C0036 9. I thought huffy had a H in the number like 1H for 71. what does the C mean. Thanks, Nate

Usually they are an H but we have seen some with a C also. I had thought maybe it meant they were manufactured in California but am starting to think it means something else, just not sure what at this time. It is a 1971 though.

Well that gives me something else to research I guess.

I used to see mostly Yellow Slingshots and Yellow Super Stock with the C but I have a Blue Wheel Bike with it, and several others now. California Huffy Plant is the most sensible thing it might mean. Just not sure yet unto more info comes to light.
