The rust eater stuff from the auto parts store is very expensive. I have found a way that is much cheaper than that. I have been buying CLR from the grocery store and mixing it 50/50 with water or maybe a little more water than that. Then I soak chrome parts over night and cad plated parts for about 3-4 hours. All this depends on the amount of rust. You do not want to leave it in too long or the chrome gets "flat" and cad parts turn black and then have to be scrubbed with SOS pad or Scotch Brite. For really stubborn rust I sometimes use a brass brush to soak then scrub until clean. Cad parts I will use Scotch Brite for the same. It takes some practice to get it right. It will even take the rust off of parts that are pitted and complete junk. Then I polish them and clear coat them to keep them from rusting again. That is only on real bad stuff. most stuff cleans fine.

Here are some results on some cruiser bars that the seller said were good for paint, re-chrome, or a rat rod....

I accidentally posted this in the discussion forum before...Years ago a buddy of mine found a Murray Eliminator in the trash and it
sat in his yard for like 10 years, after trying and trying I finally
got it from him and now I am trying to restore it. Someone who I found
on the net told me it was a 69 Murray Eliminator F3 its painted with
yellow to green fade. Is that right? Is there a way to ID it from the
serial on the bike or something? I put up a few pics from last week.
Ive been pretty into fixing it and now it has 2 new black wall tires
and I'm about to put the new sissy bar and chain I bought on it. When I
put the rear wheel back on tonight I noticed that the end of the shift
cable was broken. The part I am talking about goes from the end of the
shifter cable and attaches to the little lever on the rear wheel that
changes speeds. Does anyone know where to find that? I kind of want to
get it assembled and go through all the mechanical parts to make sure
they work,...
